Tiger Woods

Chances are unless you're living under a rock, you've heard the name Tiger Woods a time or two. As the most famous golfer in the world, Tiger Woods is one of the most recognizable names today. Eldrick "Tiger" Woods was born December 30, 1975 in Cypress California. He is the only child of Earl and Kultida Woods. The late Earl Woods was of African American, Chinese and Native American decent. Kultida Woods is of Thai and Chinese descent. This wide variety of national heritage has made Tiger Woods an inspiration to fans of all races.

Tiger Woods began playing golf when we was only two years old. He appeared on television and was featured in magazines as a toddler and school aged child because of his unbelievable golf skills. At the age of eight, he won the 9-10 boys event at the Junior World Golf Championships. He won the Junior World Championships six times including four consecutive wins! He became the youngest U.S. Junior Amateur Champion when he was 15.

Tiger Woods attended college at Stanford University for two years before turning pro in August of 1996. He signed deal of $40 million with Nike and $20 million with Titleist right away. In April 1997, Tiger won his first golf major, The Masters, by a record of 12 strokes and became the youngest Masters winner ever. He also won three other PGA tour events that year and on June 15, 1997, he became number one in the Official World Golf Rankings.

To date, Tiger Woods has taken first place titles at three Masters, two U.S. Open's, and three PGA Championships. He has won such awards as Rookie of the Year, Athlete of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year, some of these awards up to eight times. In October 5, 2004, Tiger married Elin Nordegren. They are expecting their first child in the Summer of 2007.
