If you aren't very tech-savvy, this article should help you understand the difference between some of the terms that are thrown around these days in regards to wireless technology and the internet. Going shopping for a cell phone with internet capabilities or a wireless internet card for your laptop, you will hear more foreign terms than at a Star Trek convention. All jokes aside, it's important to know what the technology does before signing any service contracts.
Most cellular phones today, smart phones included, run on the 3G network for both voice and data access. 3G, evolved from its predecessor 2G, is used by practically all of the major cellular provider companies. Under perfect conditions, which almost never occur for the average consumer, 3G can reach speeds of up to 3Mbit/s. In layman's terms, that's more than 50 times faster than dial-up. However, average speeds are about 20 times faster.
4G technology is the successor to 3G. It will soon become the standard for cellular wireless. The technology is currently available, but is still being perfected. The goal is to reach "ultra-broadband" speeds, which is in terms of gigabits per second. To put it simply: extraordinarily fast. The current technology on the market is already gauged at three to four times faster than 3G.
When looking for mobile wireless for your laptop, you generally have two options. The first is to purchase your card from a cellular phone company. The current standard, as with their phones, is 3G service. Prices among the major companies range from 30 to 60 dollars a month. Your other option is to find an independent provider that offers the faster speeds of 4G.
Obviously, one is faster than the other, but each has its own pros and cons. 3G technology only works where the signal reaches. Therefore, if you come across a dead spot in cell phone signal, you will lose your access to the internet. However, in spite of dead zones here and there, 3G coverage spans the U.S. The same cannot be said of its successor, yet. Currently only available in major cities, researchers are working to expand the cover of 4G technology.
It's important to check out the coverage in your area when shopping for wireless internet technology. The last thing you want to do is get stuck with a contract and you can't even pick up good signal where you live and work. If you don't think you are getting an honest answer from your salesperson, ask around to your friends, family and neighbors. There's no better advice than from someone with experience.
The face of technology is changing every day, especially in the way that we are able to access the internet. Our society depends so heavily upon that access. We always want the newest this and the fastest that. That's why teams of scientists around the country are constantly developing new methods of connectivity and new gadgets for us to play with. It's important to stay abreast of the latest developments so that you always get your money's worth when purchasing new technology.

We see Leighton Meester as the evil yet very lovable Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl. She is a 21 year old who fulfills every girl's fantasy wardrobe. What does she prefer wearing off camera?
For the costumes that she wears, Leighton speaks that they are very enjoyable to wear and very fabulous. She adds that she did not have anything like that at all when she was growing up at that age. However, she says that her own personal style is nothing like the costumes that she wears, because she has a bit of a chameleon style, saying that her fashion style is constantly changing. She is somewhat eclectic, and she likes to try a little bit of everything, but makes sure that she is casual and relaxed. To summarize, she says "Pretty much whatever's comfortable is the best choice for me". If you want to follow her star style, choose the most basic, and most comfortable and casual clothes that you have in your wardrobe, making sure that you do not overuse just one article.
Her favorite designers include Kenneth Cole, Ferragamo for bags, Zac Posen, Nanette Lepore, Marc Jacobs, Julie Has and Diane von Furstenberg. She says that she can't just pick one designer as her favorite because she uses and loves "different name brands for lots of different occasions".
When asked what her best present for herself is, Leighton answered that what she would like to give herself and what she would want to receive from other people is to be given some time off for herself from work, which she answered with a smile.

Who is Jim Carrey?
Jim Carrey has been one of the most prominent comedy actors of this generation. With millions of fans around the world, his movies often sit atop the box office right after they're released. During the course of the last 15 years, Carrey has starred in a host of movies, delivering endless laughs to his audiences.
At the end of the day, determining which Jim Carrey movie was his best is a difficult task. With so many great movies in his arsenal, it's hard to narrow it down to one.
Many people will say that Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, the movie that really put him on the big stage, is Carrey's best work. Others prefer his follow up, The Mask, which also introduced longtime movie star Cameron Diaz. Carrey's versatility as an actor was definitely showcased in The Mask, as he played a character with an absolutely huge personality.
Still, it was Dumb and Dumber, which followed about a year later, that many believe was Carrey's funniest movie ever. Starring with Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas, a dimwit living in Providence, Carrey travels across the country with Daniels to chase the woman of his dreams.
Moving forward, there were movies like Me, Myself and Irene, not to mention The Cable Guy, a movie that seems to polarize its viewers. Believe it or not, there are many who believe that The Cable Guy was Carrey's most inventive performance and his best work.
Those into the more serious side of Carrey may opt for his great work in movies like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Carrey gave sensational performances in both of these movies, each of which earned him consideration for an Oscar in the minds of many.
Regardless of which Carrey movie stands out in your mind, one thing is for sure. He's been one of the best movie stars of this generation and a pleasure to watch on the big screen.

Beastie Boys Biography
One of my first memories of hip-hop and rap was the Beastie Boys song "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)" on the radio while I was still at school. I remember saving all my money just to buy the album Licensed To Ill and I now rate it one of my top 50 albums of all time. At the time I was listening to a lot of chart music and "oldies" but the Beastie Boys helped to change my musical tastes and now hip-hop and rap is probably my favourite genre.
The Beastie Boys originated in New York, USA and consisted of Michael Diamond (Mike D), Adam Yauch (MCA), John Berry and Kate Schellenbach. There have been many contributors since then, the most popular being Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), Michael Schwartz (Mix Master Mike), and Wendell Fite (DJ Hurricane). The name Beastie was thought to stand for "Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence" but in a report with Mike D he said that this happened after they had come up with the name. In the early days the group were support acts for bands like The Misfits, Reagan Youth, Bas Brains and The Dead Kennedys.
In 1983 John Berry left and was replaced by Ad-Rock, soon after the Beastie Boys signed to Def Jam and released the EP Rock Hard in 1984. Not long after Kelly left the band and it is said that it was a result of their manager thinking she didn't fit the bands rap image. In 1985 the Beastie Boys opened for Public Image Ltd. (Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols new band),they also supported Madonna on her "Virgin" tour and on the Raising Hell tour with Run DMC.
The debut album Licensed To Ill was released in 1986 and is reported as the best selling Rap album of the 1980's and the first Rap album to goto #1 on the Billboard album chart. The album stayed at the top of the chart for five weeks and sold over 5 million copies. Paul's Boutique was released in 1989 after they signed with Capitol Records and is considered a landmark for hip-hop recordings due to its use of multi-layering and sampling techniques. Rolling Stone Magazine described the album as "the Pet Sounds/Dark Side of the Moon of hip hop." and it went on to sell over a million copies.
Check Your Head was released in 1992 after yet another change in label to Grand Royal Records (their own label) and the band played all the instruments themselves. The album went double platinum in the US. It is said in the Oxford English Dictionary that the Beastie Boys created the haircut term called the Mullet in the song Mullet Head in 1994.
When Ill Communication was released in 1994 it went straight into the US chart at #1, soon after, the Beastie Boys headlined at Lollapalooza (an American music festival) alongside The Smashing Pumpkins. They also went on a tour to raise awareness for The Milarepa Fund which deal with Tibetan human rights and Adam Yauch organised the Tibetan Freedom Concert which saw over 100,000 people through the gates of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in 1996.
Aglio e Olio was released in 1995 and resembled a more punk style than that usually associated with their Rap style. The In Sound From Way Out! was released in 1996 and was an instrumental album consisting of jazz/funk beats.
Hello Nasty saw a new shift in the Beastie Boys music when DJ Hurricane was replaced by Mix Master Mike. The album was released in 1998 and went straight into the US chart at #1 and sold over 690,000 sales in the first week alone. The album also went into the #1 slot in UK, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Sweden.
When To The 5 Boroughs was released in 2004 it was the first of their albums to be completely produced by themselves and reached #1 in the US chart and the single "Ch-Check It Out" was #2 on the world internet download chart. There was some controversy when the album was released as some people claimed the CD installed spyware when played on a PC but these allegations were settled as it was only copy protection software which only appeared on European copies.
Beastie Boys released The Mix Up in 2007 and prior to its release some tracks were leaked onto the internet and it was thought that the album would be purely instrumental but when the album was actually released it was soon discovered that it was just a myth. The Beastie Boys are currently producing a new album.

Checking Accounts
A checking account is one of the basic services provided by the financial institutions. It allows individuals and businesses to deposit money and withdraw funds from account by check, electronic cards or ATM or transfer. Here the account holder can use checks in place of cash to pay debts.
Almost all banks offer their customers one or another form of a checking account service. Some may require a minimal initial deposit before establishing a new account, along with proof of identification and address; where as a student or other low-income applicant can opt for a no-frills checking account which does not charge fees for the use of personal checks and other services.
Checking account owners are responsible for keeping a regular track of their available funds, even as bank issue their accounting statements periodically. There are some banks that will protect checking account holders by making the proper payments and notifying the check writer that an overdraft has taken place.
There are different types of checking accounts like: basic checking, interest bearing, joint checking, express, lifeline, senior/student checking and money market. These accounts have their own ways of functioning. Basic checking account holder does not need to maintain a high balance where as interest bearing requires a minimum balance to open the account. Coming to the joint checking account it can be owned by two or more people. There are accounts that are designed for low-income consumers, senior citizens also like lifeline, senior checking accounts.

What Exactly is Spam?
Spam, as defined in the context of computers, the Internet and electronic messaging, is a term used to designate unsolicited bulk electronic messaging and communication. In particular, spam is unsolicited bulk mailings that are commercially oriented. It is most commonly used in advertising, but it is also used to perpetrate religious, political or other types of messages. Spam is, often times, considered the electronic equivalent of junk postal mail, telemarketing or broadcast faxing. Spam got its bad name and reputation from the advertisement of ill reputable and questionable products, such as pornography, pyramid schemes, fad products, pump-and-dump stocks, etc.
Spam is delivered via several mediums, to include:
· E-mail messages
· Search engines
· Instant messaging
· Web blogs
· Usenet newsgroups
· Text messaging mobile phones
· Internet telephony
The growth of spam is a result of the cost benefit to initiators, who need only devise and develop distribution lists. The other associated costs of spam, such as bandwidth, message management and loss of productivity, become the responsibility of recipients of the messages, ISPs or other public and private entities.
In 2003, the US passed the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act of 2003, which establishes standards for sending commercial e-mail. More specifically, the act is intended "to regulate interstate commerce by imposing limitations and penalties on the transmission of unsolicited, commercial electronic mail via the Internet". The act establishes the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as the overseer of its provisions.
The act establishes electronic mail as extremely important in communication since it "provides an
opportunity for the development and growth of frictionless commerce", which is being threatened by unsolicited commercial email. The act establishes the following as criminal behaviors when used in connection with foreign or interstate electronic mail:
· Knowingly accessing a protected computer without authorization
· Intentionally deceiving or misleading the origin of messages
· Falsifying header information
· Falsifying registration information for 5 or more e-mail accounts or 2 or more domain names
· Falsely representing one's self as the registrant of 5 or more IP addresses
· Obtaining e-mail addresses through improper means
· Perpetrating fraud, identity theft, child pornography, obscenity and the sexual exploitation of children.
Criminal penalties include a fine and/or imprisonment for up to 5 years dependent upon:
· The volume of electronic transmissions
· The amount of falsified information
· Losses incurred by others
· Monetary gains from the act
· Whether the act was committed in furtherance of an felony
· Prior offenses.
Civil penalties are dependent upon the jurisdiction placing the charges and may range from hundreds of dollars to millions of dollars, dependent upon the severity of the crimes and losses involved. Also, property traceable to proceeds from monetary gains and equipment used to commit an offense may be forfeited to the US government.
As critics of the law argue, the legislation fails to dictate to marketers and advertisers, not to spam. In fact, the act does not make reference to the term, "spam", except as used in the name, CAN-SPAM. The act makes reference to the phrase, commercial electronic mail message, and defines it to be "any electronic mail message, the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service (including content on an Internet website operated for a commercial purpose)".
Legislation is intended to curb practices inherent in spamming, such as e-mail harvesting, dictionary attacks and using viruses and Trojans to perpetrate messages. The act establishes the following with respect to commercial electronic mail messages:
· A message must contain a legitimate return address.
· A message must include and specify a method to opt-out of receiving further messages. The ability to opt-out must be available for 30 days.
· The sender may not initiate messages after 10 days of receipt of an opt-out.
· The sender may not sell, lease, exchange or transfer the opt-out e-mail address to an affiliate.
· The sender may offer a menu of options that allow the recipient to either opt-out or opt-in to future messages*.
· A message must include an identifier that specifies the message as an advertisement or solicitation.
· Messages containing sexually oriented material must contain clearly identifiable markings or notices
· A message must include a valid, physical, postal address by which the sender may be contacted.
· The sender may not send messages to addresses that were knowingly acquired from proprietary websites and ISPs, through automated methods. Particularly, when the site or ISP provides notice of their refusal to give, sell or transfer addresses for the purpose of initiating electronic mail messages.
· The sender may not create automated scripting and other means to gain multiple email addresses for the purpose of transmitting illegal messages.
· The sender may not transmit messages from a computer or email address obtained without authorization.
*Unlike opt-out advertising, which allows the recipients of advertisement to discontinue any unwanted advertisements from the sender, opt-in advertising allows the advertiser to request to have specific advertisement sent. The recipient may allow or deny permission to have further advertisement sent. If allowed, the advertiser immediately includes that e-mail address to its distribution list. Another option is, double opt-in advertising, which is similar to opt-in advertising except that once the recipient grants permission to send advertisements, a confirmation request is sent to the recipient to verify that they did, indeed, allow the permission. The e-mail address is added to the distribution list only after the recipient has positively responded to the confirmation request.
CAN-SPAM is not intended to provide cause for the general public to sue spammers, individually or in class action suits. It is designed to allow enforcement by the FTC and other federal agencies for the benefit of the general public. Individuals remain privy to the state laws and regulations of their particular jurisdictions.

Women & Money is a very good book that I would recommend to all women who do not have experience in the area of personal finances. This book is very basic and simple and is not something for women that already have a lot of experience with personal finances. For others that do not have experience they must realize the importance of educating themselves on the basics of personal finances. They need to be prepared to take control of their financial situation just in case an unexpected situation like death or divorce comes about. Women also need to take a more active role in their families personal finances simply because two minds working on something are always better than one. In this book Orman does a great job of explaining this and also giving women ways to become more involved.
In Orman's book she starts out by talking about the dysfunctional relationship that women often have with money. She does a very good job of using a level yet authoritative tone in giving out practical and useful financial advice Suze goes into great detail about why women often leave the handling of money to men and also why women should be more involved. Suze mentions that women are just as capable as men in handling money but that they often choose to leave the job to men. In this book Suze gives out a few reasons why women often leave personal finances to men including that women feel that coveting money is wrong and also that women are more team-oriented. Suze says that women are usually scared to admit that they want a lot of money because they feel that it is wrong. Suze also says that often times women end up making less than men because they are more team oriented and concerned that everybody makes a good and even salary rather than fighting for every dollar they can get added to theirs.
The first half of Women & Money is based solely are the psychological and mental aspects of personal finances. It is centered around the attitudes and perceptions that women have toward money. The first half of the book is not much of an actual financial planning tool but still does do a great job of preparing women to learn the actual mechanics of personal finances.
The second half of Women & Money includes the meat and potatoes of personal finances. In this part of the book Orman gives her readers a step by step plan for how to actually get their personal finances in order. This plan includes Orman's 5 step "Save Yourself Plan". In this plan Suze gives out 5 very simple steps that anyone can easily follow in order to take control of their personal finances. Suze also sets up a time schedule of five months to implement this plan with a goal of finishing 1 step each month.
The first step in Orman's plan is to establish a checking and savings account. In this step Suze suggests that her readers setup a bank account that they have complete access to and suggest that it be a high yielding savings account and a standard checking account.
The second step in Orman's plan is to check your credit score. Here Suze suggests that each women find out what their score is and if needed they should take the necessary steps to improve/establish it. Suze also touches on the importance of paying down your debts here.
In the third step Suze talks about the importance of investing for retirement. Here she goes into great detail about how important it is to begin saving for retirement. This chapter includes information on 401K's, IRAs, and Roth IRAs.
In the fourth step of Orman's plan she talks about all of the importance must-have documents. Here she goes over wills, living trusts, and much much more.
The fifth and final step in Orman's plans talks about protecting your home and your family. In this last step she talks about the importance of renters or home owner's insurance, personal liability insurance, and life insurance.
Overall, I think that Orman's Women & Money book is a good read for any women that are looking for information about personal finances. This book could help many women to realize thee importance of taking an active role in personal finances and help them to see why they should be involved in family money decisions.
